Got a question?  Go to my FAQs page

Services include:

Family tree research:

I can research one of your ancestors to a full family tree dating back to 1800 and further (if records allow!).  This includes a written report and a traditional pedigree produced on paper (see photo above).

Look ups:

Do you need me to be your research assistant?  I can find records at local archives if you are unable to visit in person.  I cover the archives in Sussex, Surrey, Kent and London.

Face-to-face help:

Do you need a bit of extra help?  Have you been given an incomplete family tree or found a bundle of family documents and want to know more?  I can assess what you have, find the gaps and help create an action plan for you to guide your own research.  Face to face help is available for clients in the Sussex and Surrey areas.

Document & photo organisation and filing:

Have you got a box of loose family photos and documents?  To help preserve your family photos I offer a scanning service which includes filing the original documents and photographs in acid free storage files.  Scanning documents and photographs to a USB stick means that you can view them over and over again without handling the original thus preserving them for longer.  Scanning also allows you to reproduce them and share copies of your original documents electronically.  I have a Master of Arts degree in Museum Studies and know how to handle and preserve your documents and photos.

Maddy has been so helpful, supportive and interested.  She has found information which I would have been unable to find myself.  Her eye for detail makes seemingly irrelevant findings prove to be highly significant.  Using DNA she has confirmed that I have a Canadian Grandfather and proved a family myth that I had a Great Grandfather who was a famous scientist.

I commissioned a family tree as a gift for my mum and we both were very pleased with the results! Mum has found the information fascinating and it has provoked lots of discussion and fond reminiscence. We were particularly pleased to find that many previous generations had been involved in the manufacture of shoes as it helped explain our shared obsession and also can be used as a legitimate excuse for purchasing yet more pairs of shoes as clearly its in our genes! Although the family history did highlight some sad stories, these were handled sensitively and made the whole process none the less charming and genuinely captivating. We would not hesitate to recommend the Crafty Genealogist to others interested in researching their family tree.
